Blue Gourami Description
The Blue Gourami species is very popular and has many names. Their basic color is silvery blue but change according to their moods. They have many other names such as the Three Spot Gourami, Opaline Gourami, Cosby Gourami, Golden Gourami and Silver Gourami.
Blue Gourami is native to Malaysia, Thailand, Burma and Vietnam. During spawning, they have a deeper blue color. They have a labyrinth organ that enables them to absorb oxygen directly.
Behavior
The Blue Gourami is of the more resilient fish of their species. They prefer densely vegetated water of any kind. They are a peaceful fish and have a lifespan of 4 years. Males are territorial therefore they should be kept alone in the tank. They swim in the middle and top of the tank.
Diet and Habitat
These aquarium fish inhabit in canals, ditches, ponds, swamps, rivers and lakes. They are omnivorous and eat most foods. Blue Gourami lay eggs and are bubble nest builders. These fish are easy to care for. If kept as pet, the required tank size is 20 gallon of water. Their adult size is 4 inches or 10 cm.
