Types of Angelfish

As said, there are two types of angelfish: the sea-water and the freshwater. The former type has brightly-colored spots and can reach grow up to 12in long while the later type generally comes in triangular shape and usually grow up to few inches.

Habitat

The freshwater angelfish is native to Amazon River and its main streams and lakes in South America. The marine angelfish is found inhabiting in oceanic part of Southern Hemisphere.

Diet

Both species of angelfish are omnivores. They primarily feed on smaller species of fish, invertebrates and tiny particles in their natural habitat such as planktons and algae.

• The average lifespan of an angelfish ranges from 8 to 15 years.

• The optimum Ph level of the water should be around 6.5 to 7.2 for angelfish. Both species of angelfish require specific water condition. If there are any drastic changes on the ph level or salt level, they may probably die.

• Although both types have comparable names, they are not actually related to each other. While the freshwater angelfish is distantly related to cichlids, the sea-water angelfish is thought to be closely related to butterfly fish.

• Female Angelfish can lay about 1000 eggs on the rock or plant surface. Angelfish eggs are usually guarded by their parent and hatch after 24 to 36 hours.
